How Klaviyo pricing works
Klaviyo has one email plan. The price scales with your billable profile count. The features do not change as you pay more.
- Billable profiles are the meter.
- Klaviyo splits your list into three buckets: total profiles (everyone in your account), active profiles (the ones that can still receive marketing), and suppressed profiles (unsubscribed, bounced, or manually suppressed). You are billed only on active profiles, and a profile counts as active and billable only if it has an email address. Since February 2025, an active profile counts whether or not you actually email it, so people you never send to still add to the bill. Suppressed and deleted profiles stop counting once Klaviyo processes them.
- Upgrades are automatic. Downgrades usually aren't.
- Cross a tier line and Klaviyo moves you up at the next billing cycle. To move down, you pick the lower plan after your count updates. Auto-downgrade is the exception. It needs flexible sending turned on.
- The 25% cap for legacy accounts.
- Accounts affected by the 2025 change got an appreciation discount capping any increase at 25%. The discount shrinks each time you downgrade.
- Same features at every tier.
- Every tier has the same features. The price is set by billable profiles alone; each plan also includes a monthly email limit, about 10x the profile cap on most tiers. Add-ons and contracted products (Reviews, Marketing Analytics, Customer Hub, mobile messaging) can change what appears on your bill.
- Above 250,000 profiles: custom.
- Public tiers stop at 250,000 billable profiles. Past that, Klaviyo prices by contract. And there's no annual billing discount. Self-serve plans are monthly only.
Am I overpaying for Klaviyo?
You may be overpaying if your billable count includes people you should never mail again. A sunset review identifies the candidates. And if your invoice is higher than the email-plan price, the gap may be SMS plans, add-ons, or contract terms, not waste.
Industry data backs the pattern. ZeroBounce's 2026 Email List Decay Report finds at least 28% of a list goes bad each year, and engagement data shows a large share of the rest, roughly 40% of subscribers, go quiet within a year. Yet for most senders, regular list cleaning is still the exception.
A worked example. A brand with 38,000 billable profiles sits in the up-to-40,000 tier: $600/month. A sunset review confirms 9,000 profiles should never be mailed again. Suppressing them brings the count to 29,000, the up-to-30,000 tier at $500/month. That's $100/month, or $1,200 a year, once the count updates and the lower plan is selected. See which profiles are safe to stop mailing.
SMS and add-ons
The free plan includes $5 of mobile messaging a month (SMS, MMS, and WhatsApp). Paid SMS is billed per send, about $0.01 plus carrier fees in the US, and rates vary by country. Other add-ons, such as Reviews, Marketing Analytics, and the Customer Data Platform, bill separately and scale with your orders, usage, or profile count. Check Klaviyo's pricing page for current add-on rates. If your invoice is higher than the email-plan estimate above, this is usually where the difference lives.

Klaviyo pricing questions
Does Klaviyo charge for unsubscribed or suppressed profiles?
No. Suppressed profiles stop counting toward your bill once processed. But unengaged profiles that are still active do count. That's the gap a sunset review closes.
What's the difference between active and billable profiles?
Billable profiles are your active profiles that can receive marketing and aren't suppressed or deleted. That's the number Klaviyo prices on.
How much does Klaviyo cost per month?
The email plan starts at $20/month for up to 500 billable profiles and scales with your count: $150/month at 10,000, $720/month at 50,000. Use the calculator above for your exact tier.
Is Klaviyo free?
Yes, up to 250 billable profiles and 500 email sends a month, plus $5 of mobile messaging a month. Past either limit, paid plans begin.
Why did my Klaviyo bill go up in 2025?
In February 2025, billing moved to active profiles. You now pay for every profile that can be mailed, not just the ones you mail. Many bills rose without a single new subscriber.
Does Klaviyo automatically downgrade my plan?
Generally no. Upgrades are automatic. To move down, you pick the lower plan after your count updates. Auto-downgrade is the exception. It needs flexible sending turned on.
What happens if I exceed my profile limit?
Sending continues, and Klaviyo moves you to a plan that covers your count at the next billing cycle.
What happens if I exceed my email send limit?
Plans include a monthly email limit of about 10x your tier's profile cap. If you hit it, you can use flexible sending, upgrade, or pause sending until the cycle renews.
Does Klaviyo offer annual billing or a discount?
No. Self-serve plans are monthly only, with no annual discount.
Do higher tiers unlock more features?
No. For the standard email plan, every tier has the same features. The price tracks your profile count, not a feature ladder.
How many profiles do brands typically sunset?
Outcomes vary by brand. The context: about 40% of subscribers go quiet within a year, and 20-30% of addresses go bad. A sunset review, excluding seasonal buyers first, tells you your real number.
